The American supernatural horror film Insidious Chapter 3 is directed and written by Leigh Whannell. This will be the first of the Insidious movies not directed by James Wan. It is prequel to the first two movies preceding Insidious Chapter 3; Insidious Chapter 2 and the first Insidious, making it the third installment in the series. Focus Features plans to release the film on June 5th, 2015.
On September 18th, 2014 a teaser poster was released with the text “The man who can’t breathe, the man who lives in the vent, I heard him saying your name last night, I heard him on your room while you were gone, he’s in there right now, standing in your room.” Focus Features released the first trailer on October 23rd, 2014. The full official trailer was at last released on March 17th 2015. The release date for Insidious Chapter 3 was pushed back from April 3rd, to May 29th, and at last to June 5th.
Insidious Chapter 3 will actually predate the first two movies, making it in reality a prequel. The first two films center around the Lambert family. In the first movie one of their sons, Dalton, falls into a coma and supernatural events following his comatose state cause the family to think that Dalton is haunting their home. The father, Josh, and his son, Dalton, can both astral project in their dreams to a place which appears in each move called “The Further.” The second movie falls primarily on the father, Josh, and his supernatural experiences.
The third movie will not focus on the Lambert family but on a teenage girl and her family. The largest shared factor amongst the movies is the characters of the paranormal research team including the psychic Elise Rainier (played by Lin Shaye), Tucker (played by Angus Sampson), and Specs (played by Leigh Whannell). The paranormal trio again appear in Insidious Chapter 3 in hopes of protecting Quinn Brennar (Stefanie Scott) against a malevolent supernatural force.
The Cast making up Insidious Chapter 3 includes Ashton Moio as Hector; Dermot Mulroney as Sean Brenner; Kayley Kiyoko as Maggie; Steve Coulter as Carl; Michael Reid MacKay as The Man Who Can’t Breathe; Ele Keats as Lilith; Anne Bergstedt Jordanova as Neighbor; Ruben Garfias as Ernesto; Tate Berney as Alex; Anna Ross as Dead Teenage Junkie; Joseph Bishara as Lipstick-Face Demon; Amaris Davidson as Nurse; Phil Abrams as Mel; Taylor John Smith; and Anthony Rogers.
The first movie Insidious was relatively well received by movie-goers, but the second one was not as liked, despite going along essentially a continuation of the same story. Insidious Chapter 3 is an attempt to avoid the mistake of the second film, Insidious Chapter 2, while still bringing forth an additional movie. It may lose fans of the previous two movies because it abandons the Lambert family, but only time will tell whether or not it was a smart move. Insidious Chapter 3 might be the perfect addition to the Insidious films, adding a fresh and horrific new flavor to the series.
