When it comes to making a hit TV show, it’s all about the ratings. Knowing this makes it interesting as the new shows for the Spring 2012 season are premiering. It’s always fun to guess at which shows will make it, and which ones won’t. Hopefully, there will be less disappointments as this season closes, in terms of which shows are cancelled and which ones are renewed.
Premiering April 4th is the new NBC show ‘Best Friends Forever’. It is scheduled to come on Wednesdays at 8:30 pm, est. The show follows Jessica St. Clair’s character, Jessica Black, after she breaks up with her husband and moves in with her best friend, Lennon White. Jessica St. Clair and Lennon Parham collaborated to create the show.
White and Black now have to learn to live together as roommates, with the complications posed by Lennon’s boyfriend, Joe, living there as well.
ABC is premiering ‘Scandal’ on April 5 at 10 pm, est. The show is based on the career of a real -life Washington mediator, Judy Smith. Smith helped mediate in the Monica Lewinsky scandal, the LA riots and the Iran Contra investigations. The lead character, Olivia Pope, played by Kerry Washington, starts a crisis mediation company. The program follows the characters as they put out fires and fix the pertinent issues.
STARZ is offering ‘Magic City’ on April 6, at 10 pm, est. The show provides a glimpse at Miami Beach in 1959 with programming that is a mix of Casino and Mad Men. The show centers around the dangers endured by the owner of the Miramar Playa Hotel, as he deals with a not-so-nice benefactor that wants to add prostitution and gambling to the casino he helped finance. The benefactor is Ben “The Butcher” Diamond, played by Danny Houston. The poor hotel owner that got himself mixed up with a mob boss is Steven Strait, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
Lifetime is premiering it’s newest show, ‘The Client List” on April 8 at 10:00 pm, est. This can get confusing because there was a TV movie by the same name in 2010. However, this promises to have a different twist. Hewitt will be starring in this one, as well.
In this version, Riley opens a massage parlor after her husband abandons her, leaving her destitute. The show co-stars Cybill Shepherd and Loretta Devine.
‘Girls’ will be premiering on Sunday, April 15 at 10:30 pm, est. The show is supposed to be like a cross between Sex and the City and Gossip Girl. This is another show that was created by the leading actress, Lena Dunham. The show looks at a group of twenty-somethings as they live their lives in NY.
While this is not a complete list of all the new shows and programs premiering this April, it is a good start. All of these shows are in their first season, so viewers will have to wait and see which ones will make it through crunch time to return for season two.
