Episode 2 of the ABC TV hit series begins as June sees a little baby passing by in a stroller, which makes the 1984 Lionel Richie hit “Hello, is that me you’re looking for?” resonate through her ears. She realizes it pretty hard to have a baby when you can’t even get a date. However, Chloe has just the right person for her new roommate, but it’s already been revealed that June doesn’t trust her as far as men are concerned. Actually, she doesn’t trust Chloe with anything.
Determined to set June up with Scott, Chloe throws a party to introduce the two to each other. The event went off just as planned and Chloe’s match-making ploy came together as the two of them immediately took to each other. Both June and Scott like biking and they both just came out of a long-term relationship. Before you know it, June is making out with Scott but as soon as she finds out that the man she is kissing is Chloe’s dad, things come to a standstill.
In defense of trying to get the two of them together, Chloe explains to June that her parents have split and her dad is deserving of much more than her mother can offer him. She reveals that her mother never took her skating or to the park, but June is struggling with dating her roommate’s dad. However, Scott causes June to change her mind as he gives her a stuffed McGruff crime dog. Soon the scene moves to June and Scott in bed together, with McGruff there too.
Meanwhile, James has an instructor job in an acting class at New York University. Luther, James’ assistant, has given him a look likened to that of Indiana Jones as a ploy to shed off the Dawson persona. His students are interested in hearing the monologues from the Creek. James recites some Shakespeare at the coffeehouse as the crowd only has Dawson on their minds. Mark struggles at offering any sympathy for him when he himself only makes four dollars on some days.
June tells Chloe how happy she is about getting together with Scott. However, the joy quickly subsides once June meets Chloe’s mom who is in a wheel chair. June thinks to herself that her disability was probably the reason Chloe’s mom never took her skating when she was little. Chloe’s mom reveals that she thinks Scott is cheating on her. A neighbor, Eli, cleared up the situation as he makes Chloe realize that she probably would not want to have June for a mother and that June needs to dump Scott. Chloe plans to go with her June to break the new to her dad.
In defense, Scott tries to explain that he has nothing in common with Chloe’s mom. He reveals that she doesn’t like to bike, but the wheelchair may contribute to that. June tells Scott she can not continue the relationship as he breaks out into a rage on both ladies. Chloe pushes her dad into the street where he is knocked down by a biker. Chloe later talks to June about the fact that they can still be friends and have fun even though she and Scott are no longer an item.
